Bowen Technique is a holistic healing therapy that has been described as one of the most significant innovations in manipulative therapy in the twenty-first century. It is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that is revolutionising health care worldwide. Starting in Australia, it is now firmly established in Europe and America. For more than 45 years it has been used successfully to treat many thousands of people suffering from a variety of conditions. The originator, Tom Bowen, used to perform an incredible 13,000 treatments a year, 90 % of which were first or second visits. That is how fast this treatment works!
The technique involves specific moves across tendons and muscles using gentle pressure, with thumbs and fingers and allows the body to re-set and heal itself by stimulating the body's own natural self-healing mechanisms. Each session lasts from half an hour to an hour with brief rest periods between moves to give the body time to process the work. It can be performed directly on skin or through light clothing, if the client so prefers. Bowen should not be mixed with other manipulative therapies for a week either side of a session, as other work could interrupt the effectiveness of Bowen while the body is undertaking the process of repair.
Bowen Technique can relieve pain, re-align muscular-skeletal problems and release mental and emotional blocks. Most people find that a small number of treatments are adequate even for long-standing complaints. Some conditions may need to be treated for a longer period of time, but it is recommended that clients return for follow-up treatments every six to eight weeks to maintain optimum health. However, you do not need to be unwell to benefit from Bowen therapy, as it is an effective way to help the body function at an optimal level of health and frequently results in a deep sense of relaxation.
The Bowen Technique is particularly effective for neck and back pain relief, sciatica relief and frozen shoulder relief.
